Good afternoon Glider Families!

Here are important reminders, deadlines and upcoming events for this week:

1. GCC vs. Concord Hills - 6/19/2019 - Our meet warm-ups will begin promptly at 5:00pm tomorrow. Please have your swimmers at the pool and ready for warm-ups by 4:45pm. The meet will begin at 6:00pm. We will have senior recognition for our 2 graduating seniors at the midpoint of the meet. All volunteers should be in position 5:55pm so the meet can begin on time.

2. Meet After Party - We are tentatively planning to go the Culver's (9113 Kingston Pike) for our after party tomorrow night. The restaurant is open until 10pm. If the meet runs past 9:30, we will move it to Sonic at Walker Springs Plaza.

3. Meet theme is "Back in Black/80s" - Swimmers and parents, please come dressed in black this week!

4. Thursday Practice is GAME DAY and DOUGHNUTS - Thursday - We will have game day and donuts during practice on Thursday morning. 10 and under swimmers from 9:00-10:00am and 11 and ups from 10:00-11:30am. As always, our younger swimmers may stay for the entire time. 

5. Bowling Outing following Game Day this Thursday - Come one and all!! We will be going bowling after Game Day on Thursday at noon. Strike and Spare Family Bowl (213 Hayfield Lane, Knoxville, TN 37922) Cost is $3.40 per game plus shoe rental of $3.95.

6. Smoky Mountain Invitational - July 13 & 14 - The 2019 Smoky Mountain Invitational is approaching quickly. This meet is open to all non-year round swimmers and is held at Springbrook Pool in Maryville. 11 and up swimmers compete on Saturday 7/13 and 10 and unders on Sunday, 7/14. This is a wonderful meet! Please consider attending. It is a great meet to help prepare your swimmers for the GKAISA City Meet Championships at the end of July! RSVP DEADLINE FOR SMI is Monday, July 1 at noon. Please make a note in the notes section which events your swimmer would like to compete in. Coach Cameron will do his best to honor all event requests! Absolutely no exceptions will be made to this deadline.

7. SMI T-shirt Orders - Deadline 6/30/2019 at 11:59pm - Please use this link to place your order for SMI t-shirts. No shirts will be sold at the meet. They must be preordered using this link: https://smokymountaininvitational2019.itemorder.com/sale.

8. GCC vs. Fox Den (Away) RSVP Reminder - Please remember to RSVP for next week's meet at Fox Den. The deadline is Monday, 6/24 @ 6:00pm. The meet is Thursday at Fox Den and will begin at 6:00pm.

9. A Special Note from GKAISA - REMEMBERING CLARK REAGAN (August 2, 2010 - June 10, 2019)

GKAISA would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Clark Reagan family and to his Green Meadow Swim Team family.

Clark is remembered as a bright and shining light who always saw the good in people. He was a great teammate. He always had a positive attitude at practice and meets and always had a smile on his face- even when his relay finished last in Consolations at City Meet! He was the kind of swimmer that you want in your lane- he had a great time with his friends and was soft-spoken and sweet to everyone. At each meet, the GMST coaches put their swimmers’ names on their backs. His mom, Miranda, would always decorate his back with a new design each week using the most creative things-- Clark the Shark, Super Clark, an octopus, the Incredibles, etc. Clark was an artist. He usually had most of the 8 and Unders lining up for some sharpie art, and all of the coaches and parents knew him by his artwork.

Clark had a passion for art and all things creative- writing stories, drawing, painting, etc. To celebrate his love of art, and his passion for sharing that love with everyone around him, the Green Meadow Swim Team will be collecting new art supplies (markers, crayons, yarn, scissors, glue sticks, etc.) to be shared with kids in communities like the Venezuelan school, Escuela Padre Juan Jose Zugarramurdi Il de El Vinedo, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Alcoa, TN.

If you would like to remember Clark in this way, supplies can be dropped off at the Green Meadow Pool.
