Good morning Gliders!

The board is thrilled to introduce our 2021 Glider Head Coach, John Matson. John brings a lifetime of experience in swimming from the perspectives of athlete, coach, and swim parent. He swam throughout his formative years achieving much success. He was ranked #1 High School Sprinter in the Nation. He still holds records at his high school, Mercersburg Academy. John was a scholarship athlete at University of Tennessee where he was a 4-year All American, 4-year SEC Championship Conference Finalist and a member of the 1989 SEC Conference Champions Team. John’s coaching experience includes, Pilot Aquatic Club (now Tennessee Aquatics), American University in Washington, DC, Maryville High School Swimming, Green Meadow Country Club and BLAST Swimming (now Prime Aquatics). Throughout his coaching career, John coached many athletes who continued in the sport of swimming through college. As Head Coach of BLAST Swimming, he coached and developed Olympic gold medalist, Claire Donahue. John holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Tennessee and a Master’s in Education from Lincoln Memorial University. John brings his wife, Brandi, their daughter, Brenni, a freshman at Bearden High School and son, Cole, a 7th grader at West Valley Middle School with him to the Gettysvue swim family.

We anticipate things being much closer to normal this summer. We are looking forward to many of our traditional team activities as well as some fun new things this summer. We are excited to incorporate the Club Fitness Center as part of the strength and conditioning plan with the Senior Group. City Meet is scheduled for Thursday, July 29 - Saturday, July 31. Our league is meeting April 8th to set the rest of the meet schedule for the summer.
