Black and Gold Meet details
Hi Team!
I know this is a long email! Thanks so much for taking the time to read through it all. We have such a good turnout for our meet today! Wondering what team your swimmer is on? Coaches have assigned swimmers in odd lanes on the Black Team and swimmers in even lanes are on the Gold Team. Check out the attached heat sheet to find out more!
Meet theme is Black and Gold. Come decked out in your best black and/or gold!

Athlete and Volunteer Check in
We are asking all volunteers and athletes to check in upon arrival. Parents, you can check in for your child. Athletes arriving on their own should check in before warmups.
Warmups will immediately follow the team photo.
Worker meeting: 6:00 pm
Meet begins: 6:30 pm
Please write your swimmer’s name and age on their shoulder in Sharpie for the meet. It is super helpful to our clerk of course volunteers as they are rounding up kids. Writing their events with heat and lane numbers on their arm is a big help too.
The snack bar will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken tenders during the meet for $14. You can charge to your member account or pay with a credit card.
Merch is ready to be picked up at the meet.
Meet after party, Jeremiah's Italian Ice, 1601 Ebenezer Rd
Sharks and Minnows: hopefully your swimmer has had a chance to find out who they're paired with. Be sure to find them at the meet, surprise them with a little happy, and cheer them on during their events!
Monday is a regular practice day. We will have Fun Day with Donuts on Friday after our Whittington Creek meet. Stay tuned for more details very soon.
A parent is in search of a gently used female team suit size 32 or larger. If you have a suit matching this description you'd like to sell, please contact Amanda Lane 423-912-2688.
This is a compilation of "Important Things to Know" that has been developed over the years. Hopefully, you will find a nugget that helps your swimmer and your family!!
1. Even if the weather looks questionable, plan to come to the meet - home or away. If we have any schedule changes due to inclement weather, you will be notified via email or text. We will also post updates on the Gettysvue Gliders Facebook page and Instagram, as well as send an email.
2. When you arrive at the meet, please sign in at the Volunteer Table and check-in your athlete. If you have not signed up for a volunteer position, you will be assigned a position for the meet. Meets are run completely by volunteers, so we need all the help we can get!
3. Ask for a Heat Sheet or print the one attached! These will be handed out before the meet begins and will tell you what events, heats and lanes your swimmers will swim. You will notice lots of kids writing on themselves and other swimmers with Sharpies! They can get pretty artistic! The main reason for this is they are writing their event numbers, heats and lane assignments to help them remember what they are swimming. Most swimmers will swim in 3-4 events at every meet. Heat sheets show all of the events broken down by age and gender. In all events, the girls swim first, then the boys.
Tip: Sharpie washes off easily if you put a little sunscreen on it before attempting to clean it off!
4. Make sure to know where your swimmer is. Events run quickly and without much time between them. Please make sure to get your swimmer to the Clerk of Course area at least 2-3 events (not heats) before their event to make sure they are lined up correctly before the start of their event. If your child is not present when the heat begins, they will miss their event.
5. Hydrating your swimmer and yourself is VERY important! It gets very hot on the pool deck. Please make sure to bring lots of water and healthy snacks to every meet. During hot weather, it is best to begin hydrating your swimmer 2-3 days prior to the meet. Frog togs are also great for staying cool!
6. What should you bring to swim meets?
Chairs, snacks and water/non-carbonated sports drinks, extra towels, a sweatshirt (for cool nights), games or other activities to help the kids pass time between events, your camera, Frog Togs, sunscreen, extra goggles, an extra swim cap, change of clothes, a sharpie marker/highlighter for marking your heat sheets and your enthusiasm! Please make sure to share your pictures on the Gettysvue Gliders Facebook page and Instagram!
7. Cheer for and support your swimmers and teammates! For many of our swimmers, this will be their first time racing - let them know how proud you are of all their hard work!
Go Gliders!
